It’s an honour to be included in the inaugural Ellen José Art Award at Bayside Gallery.

Ellen José (1951-2017) was a pioneer in Australia's urban Indigenous art movement and a radical activist and social justice campaigner. The Ellen José Art Award for young women aims to provide support to young female artists in the early stages of their career.

The finalists for 2022 are Moorina Bonini, Elham Eshraghian-Haakansson, Hannah Gartside, Nadia Hernández, Annika Romeyn and Emma Singer.

The exhibition of finalists works will be on display at Bayside Gallery from 2 July to 28 August 2022.

'Turbulence' exhibition opening soon at Flinders Lane Gallery, Melbourne

‘Turbulence’ continues my recent focus on the powerful and personally significant environment of Guarella/Guerilla Bay, Yuin Country (NSW South Coast).

The exhibition will be on display from 21 June - 16 July 2022 at Flinders Lane Gallery, Melbourne. If you’d like to join me in celebrating the opening on Saturday 25 June from 1-3pm please send your RSVP to assistant@flg.com.au

The exhibition can also be viewed online and is accompanied by a beautiful essay from Gina Mobayed.

“She has stayed a difficult course in continually finding new marks, methods and perspectives from which to render this captivating, complex place. For Romeyn the physicality of the Bay stands in for life; it is simultaneously thriving and eroding. Through a reduction of palette Romeyn heightens the intensity of this place and renders it anew.” - Gina Mobayed, 2022

Artbank Collection

Very happy that my watercolour monotype ‘Endurance 7’ has been acquired for Artbank’s collection of contemporary Australian art!

This ongoing body of work draws inspiration from the natural environment of Guarella (Guerilla Bay), Yuin Country (South Coast, NSW): a beautiful place that still evokes memories of the last summer shared with my Mum, yet also offers new experiences and perspectives with each return visit.

Through large-scale watercolour monotype prints I hope to capture a sense of place and convey the immersive and restorative experience of walking in nature – the momentary shifts in light and the persistent uprush and backwash of water, in contrast and constant interaction with rock formations of unfathomable age.

Winner - Burnie Print Prize

Incredible to hear that my watercolour monotype ‘Guerilla Bay 3’ has been selected as Winner of the 2021 Burnie Print Prize! I’m happy to know that this work will be enjoyed and cared for in the Burnie Regional Art Gallery collection and really appreciate the recognition and support of my practice. The exhibition includes work by so many artists I admire and is on display in Burnie, northwest Tasmania until May 1.

Artist talk & podcast

It was wonderful to visit Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery to see the beautifully curated 2020 National Works on Paper exhibition! While I was there we filmed a short artist talk and recorded a podcast. Check out the links if you’d like to know a bit more about my practice, process and the inspiration behind my recent Endurance series.
