Robin Eley Residency/Assistant Program, Los Angeles

It was a great privilege to spend almost 3 weeks in Aug/Sept 2016 working alongside the very dedicated and thoughtful artist Robin Eley in his Los Angeles Studio. I enjoyed observing Robin's artistic process and assisting with some surface preparation for his upcoming solo exhibition at 101 Exhibit, Los Angeles (April, 2017).

I received many helpful tips while experimenting with oil painting techniques, but I benefited most from Robin's generous encouragement, advice and our wide-ranging discussions around the life/career of a professional artist with all its joys and challenges.

Outside the studio it was inspiring and exciting to visit many of the incredible art museums and exhibitions on offer in L.A. and to share the experience with some very creative friends. Highlights were the London Calling exhibition at the Getty, a mind-blowing temporary installation in Pershing Square, and looking down on it all while walking the arid landscape of the Hollywood Hills.

Review of 'Between a Rock and a Hard Place' by Sasha Grishin

A fantastic review of Between a Rock and a Hard Place, celebrating the art of lithography at Lancaster Press and featuring my lithograph 'Ravine'. Sasha Grishin says "For those who love lithography, and I am certainly one of these people, this exhibition is an absolute treat" and "...Australian lithography, at its best, is a great and unique art form."

Between a Rock and a Hard Place is on display at Megalo Print Studio (21 Wentworth Ave, Kingston, ACT) until Saturday 28th May (Gallery hours: Tuesday to Saturday 9.30am - 5pm).
